Search Engine Highlighter is innovative and original script, coming only from Cube Scripts. The idea was developed in Cube Script's laboratory and such script has not been seen on the web yet (at the time of writing this text). The Search Engine Highlighter script detects if the user has came to your web site through some of the most famous search engines, such as Google, Yahoo!, etc. Then it gets words user have used in the search query, and modifies HTML code of your web page so searched terms are highlighted.
Currently supported search engines are:
- Google
- Yahoo!
- MSN
And we are working on extending our script to other, less known search engines, but these engines were our primary goal.
System requirements for Search Engine Highlighter:
- Unix/Linux or Windows hosting
- PHP 4.3+
As you can see, this script is not using MySQL database making it very user-friendly. You can use Search Engines Highlighter even if you don't have MySQL database on your web site. This program will also speed up the entire script/site because there are no MySQL queries at all. This moves installation of this script to the level of total newbie (total newbie in PHP can install it in no time).
The MySQL is very good when it is required to handle of large amount of data. However, this script does not need to handle any data, except of words used in search query.
The highlight colors (background and foreground) are easily managed through CSS (seh.css) file, which makes configuration of this script very simple. No additional settings are required. All you need to do is modify your pages so Search Engine Highlighter can detect users that have come through search engines and modify page's content (if needed). The demo (modified) page is in the archive.
This script is very FAST because there is no any parsing of HTML file using PHP script (the Regular Expressions are used). Another characteristic of this script is that it will not try to highlight terms in any HTML tag (e.g. LINK) making no chance that your links get messed up at all.
